wasn’t just an idea that came out of thin air- it started from a real experience and need in the Knoxville community. As the story behind DropJob unfolded, this need became clear. The idea came when our founder, Michael Pletan, was hired to pressure wash a houseboat on the Vol Navy. He didn’t find this job online. Instead, it came through a connection his roommate had with the boat’s owner. During the job, the boat owner said that without this connection, he wouldn’t have known how to find someone for the task.
This experience led Michael to think: “There should be an easier way for people in the community to find local help for odd jobs.” Afterward, he shared the story with friends, and many expressed interest in taking on similar jobs to earn extra cash. This feedback confirmed the need for a platform that would connect college students with the local community for unscheduled work. As a result, DropJob was born- a platform that benefits both students and the community by making the process easier for finding reliable help for odd jobs.
